Minsk weather is moderate, with a warm summer humid continental feel, yet unstable with frequent changes. Situated on the slope of the Minsk Hills in an area of mixed forests typical for most of Belarus and at an altitude of 220 m, Minsk weather is largely moderated by the joint influences of the moist air of the Atlantic Ocean and the dry air of the Eurasian landmass. As a general rule, weather in Minsk is similar to that found in most parts of Belarus.
Mid October marks the beginning of the winter season in Minsk. Running well into mid April, winters in Minsk are severely cold, with temperatures dipping anywhere between 10 C and minus 25 C, especially between December and February, by far the coldest time in Minsk weather report. Snowfalls begin their ferocious attack on the landscape during the early days of November and the thick layer of snow that covers the area only begins to melt in March. Surprisingly, winter receives only one third of the annual precipitation, the other two thirds reserved for the otherwise pleasant summer season.
Another major feature of Minsk weather is the rather high level of humidity, which rises to levels of 80-90%, especially during the cold season. This results to the frequent appearances of fog, most evident during the spring and autumn seasons.
